Some drives are worth it
So here I am, wide awake in Salina, KS at 6:40am. (that’s 5:40 for those of you following at home) I guess getting up at 4 yesterday really messed up my rhythm.
Let me tell you, never do a drive as long as this by yourself. This will be my one and only attempt at it. From now on I either wait for a fellow chaser to be available and willing to drive, or I fly. Last night was a little too long for me, between 8 hours of work (with no break) and 6.5 hours of driving (with an exceptionally short stop in Creepy, KS). The last 12 miles were excruciating, and I know for Sunday I’ll make it a point to leave early and not drive in the dark. At all.
That being said, the SPC issued a High Risk for Saturday, and it’s being whispered that this could rival April 27, 2011. I should be more excited, but all I can think about is the damage that occurred and the lives that were lost. I took the CERT course for a reason, but just like my instructor said…I hope I never have to use my training.
If something were to happen, what would I do? I have a ton of work to do when I get back, but would I leave the search and rescue/cleanup to everyone else?
That answer has yet to be established. And again, hopefully there won’t even be an issue.
Really, right now I should focus on bagels. Mmmmm.
