Weekenders, beware!

Guess where I’m going this weekend?

If you guessed crazy, you’re WRONG! I’m already there.

This weekend I’ll be making the long drive to Oklahoma (where the wind comes yada yada yada….) to catch my first twister! But looking at this week’s upcoming weather pattern, I have an incredibly decent chance of catching a tornado on the way to my hotel in Salina, KS. All alone. In my car. Probably listening to Owl City.

…I think that may be a good thing. The verdict is still out.

Tornado Hunter

Comic from XKCD

My plan is to get into town early Friday morning, and wait. Like a cat. In the sun. I’m incredibly hopeful that not only will I see a tornado, but that I won’t be left behind for being too ridiculous. There are a few things I would do if I were a complete idiot:

  • Play baseball with the hail, but also yell “FORE!” while swinging
  • Try to catch the hail. With my face.
  • Climb up on top of a car to get a better picture of the storm (and the lightning)
  • Ask if we’re at the storm yet, for about 300 miles.

Anyone have other “dont’s” to suggest? At some point I will reenact these on video. In a safe, enclosed space. All jokes aside, chasing is not a laughing matter, and I’m absolutely elated that seasoned chasers are willing to take me under their wing for my first real chase! There will be a long list of thank-yous on Monday.
